Slimming World set to save over £500,000* and improve air UK quality by choosing a petrol hybrid fleet.
By choosing petrol full hybrid models to refresh the fleet, Paul James, Facilities Manager at Slimming World, will save his company well over half a million pounds over the next 3 years whilst also improving air quality.
Building teams UK-wide
Slimming World, the UK’s largest slimming organisation, oversees more than 4,000 consultants and 12,000 slimming groups across the UK and Ireland. For the District and Field Managers looking after the 45 territories, a company vehicle is essentially a mobile office. Attending group visits plus regular training and meetings at the head office in Derbyshire, drivers routinely cover upwards of 25,000 miles a year.
Hungry for hybrid
For eight years the Slimming World fleet comprised a mixture of Honda hybrid and diesel models. Mindful of savings and efficiencies available with the latest engine technologies, Facilities Manager Paul James decided to investigate moving all company car drivers over to petrol hybrid vehicles. Determined to retain the automatic transmission drivers preferred, Paul undertook a review of leading manufacturer ranges.
Whole life cost savings
Both during research and whilst evaluating a range of vehicles at Company Car in Action, Paul was drawn to the Lexus hybrid model offering. “The vehicle specification was excellent, comparing well with our current fleet, and we liked the choice of saloon, hatchback and SUV body configurations. The prestige of the Lexus marque was an added bonus.”
As well as Toyota & Lexus Fleet Services, Paul invited Honda, Volkswagen, Audi and Kia to propose equivalent specification recommendations with indicative whole life costs over three years/60,000 miles.
Across a 76 car petrol hybrid fleet refresh, Toyota and Lexus Fleet Services projections show company savings should exceed £500,000* compared to the equivalent diesel model alternatives. The average BIK personal tax saving for each driver will be worth over £5,000*.
In addition to the tax savings, there will also be significant economies afforded by greater fuel efficiency and reduced servicing, maintenance and repair costs.
Staff, meanwhile, have been delighted with the prospect of taking the wheel of a premium marque.
"Drivers certainly appreciate this ‘step up’ to Lexus’ quality, comfort, styling and performance. Field-based managers are ambassadors for our business. It’s important for us to ensure every employee out on the road feels valued, safe, confident and at ease" Says Paul.
Driving better quality air
The move to Lexus petrol hybrids fleet-wide also underlines Slimming World’s environmental concerns. Observes Paul: "Over three years and 60,000 miles we'll cut our fleet CO2 emissions by a further 280 tonnes, whilst virtually eliminating our NOx and particulates emissions."
Petrol hybrid for all: SUVs, estates and saloons
With the range of hybrid models available it has been possible to develop a policy that satisfies the company HR requirements and business needs of the drivers. District Managers will enjoy the Lexus CT 200h hatchback, whilst the Field Managers have the choice of an IS 300 sports saloon or the NX 300h compact SUV.
*Saving calculated by comparing a fleet of 30 CT 200h, 20 IS 300h and 10 NX 300h with their Honda Diesel equivalents over a 3 year period.
